Manifestum Statement
Art is a vehicle to reach out to the world. One canvas, one painting, one poster – all are windows to a greater truth. Paula R. Harwood’s artwork derives from her personal experiences but ultimately extends to everyone. Reflective of the dynamism of the psyche, her art is energetic, poignant, and deeply rooted in emotion.
Her work aims to force the viewer from his or her proscribed box. Through text, color, and media, she illustrates the human experience. From her canvases, one understands the strength of positivity and its ability to connect people to one another. The differences between people are far outweighed by the similarities; the universality of Harwood’s art uncovers this humbling and unifying reality.
A Note from the Artist
My paintings are derived from the
German Russian Constructivist period. Artists who have influenced my style are Kandinsky,
Rodchenko, Duchamp, and Rauschenberg. My paintings are eclectic with a strong sense of color.
In my paintings, I use foils, original papers, documents, stamps, Golden acrylic paints
and glazes custom formulated for me by the factory. These formulas are designed to
be layered with transparency for depth,
an outgrowth of my previous work with the smaller medium of cloisonné enamel.
I have tried to expand the cloisonné concept into a much larger format.
Other media I have worked with in the past include goldsmithing, jewelry design, glass, cloisonné ,
and mixed media.
My work has been exhibited in galleries in New York and has won international awards.
I am interested in showing and selling my existing works, as well as doing commissioned
work for specific sites. Please see my bio for additional information.
